Dead Engine ...

Hello -

New to the forum so sorry if I dont know all the in's and out's around here.

I do need some help with my car though.

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5 with a blown engine. My dad was driving it, I guess he ran it out of water, took it to a mechanic who did a temporary fix, and then ran it out of water again, this time the engine turned off and would not turn on again and was smoking.

I had it towed to my mechanic, who is not a Saab mechanic, but is really good to me and has never screwed me over. He looked at it and told me I will need a new engine, which will cost me about $6000 installed. (I do believe him.) Though he said he doesnt know a whole lot about Saabs, he said I should do some looking around.

So - if anyone out there has gone through this before or has any ideas on how to work with this, Im all ears.

Im looking for any info on rebuilding the engine, if that is cost effective, or replacing with a used engine, though not many are for sale.

Unfortunately Im a student, going to Paramedic school right now and will be working on this fix slowly as money comes in.

Try calling GOLDWING 1-800-SAAB-137. used SAAB parts. You would never know they are used when you recieve them though. Clean and shipped as if they were new. Also, and more importantly, have always been in good working order.
