It has just over 123K miles on it and here recently i have had a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. It wants to go into 4th and then i have to either search harder for 2nd and if can't find it go into 3rd. Clutch feels fine. Tonight something bad happened. Was still not finding 2nd but also had to force into 1st. After a few aggravating moments trying to get into 1st and then find 2nd i started to smell something, a hot rubber like smell. Tranny fluid maybe? I pulled it over and there it sits. Someone last week told me after driving it that they thought it was a linkage issue and not a tranny problem. Any idea what could have happened tonight and what the problem is. No leaks under the car that I could find.
Towed to shop yesterday. Needs Clutch ki, master cylinder, slave cylinder and 2 axles $1700.00 OMG! 1987 Saab for sale LOL
Going to get a second opinion. Thanks for the help thus far will let you know. I have some other problems as well so please dont go far...thanks :)

I doubt its the linkage burning.....But I would bet its the linkage failing, probably needs to be replaced and what your smelling might well be the tranny, if the linkage isn't get the gears fast enough you might be burning your syncros out(they match the gears with engine speed). So I would have it checked out, linkage is pretty cheap but if you burn up those syncros then your talking tranny rebuild.
