Here are the main problems:
1. Grey smoke from the exhaust when I start the car.
2. Poor gas mileage
3. When driving the car looses all power and acts like it will shut off, but then regains running. Sometimes when Im on the highway and I try to slow down and then speed up, it shakes and almost cuts off.
4. Check engine light is on, and will occasionally flash when the vehicle begins toose power.
5. After turning the ignition off, the car engine knocks and rumbles before finally shutting off.

Note: I ran low octane fuel in it for awhile not realizing that it may damage the engine. It seems to run worse in hot weather. I just replaced my battery and alternator.

Any suggestions as to what this may be would be extremely helpful, as the repairs are expensive and I don't want to get screwed buying unneccesary parts

Might I suggest starting with the check engine light. I have herd when it is flashing it means you are doing damage to your catalytic converter.

Looks like you've done some engine damage.
Fouled spark plug cause of low octane and hard detanation.
Check oil pick up screen for blockage
Oil sludge could be there too.

Expect some serious dough to fix
