1999 9-3 turbo.

Steering went stiff while on way home. Had to make it the last 7 miles that way. Discovered dry when checked, Replaced fluid at home at once, vehicle will not start now. No other significant incidents while on way home. Fuel ok.

Never a problem previously, car has run w/o incident.

Fuses checked, all ok.

Is there some sort of auto protect/fault detect in the computer system that may cause the inability to start until reset?

Thanks
Daniel

Check the ignition cassette which is located on top of the engine. Sometimes it smells like electrical burring smell. If faulty just replace it. You should also replace the spark plugs when replacing this cassette. Must use the original type plugs per Saab. Using off brand will damage the ignition cassette. Must be resistor type mad be NGK.

You should also find out where the steering fluid went. The usual leak is near the reservoir. tighten the clamps. This should have been done when you service your Saab. That is if you do service it per Saab recommendation. If so, change your Saab shop to avoid these type of small problems. When steering fluid is low, there is always a loud whine when engine is running and it is cold temperature. This should have given you a warning. If not then you have a big leak that happened while you were driving and should be fixed.
