If you have done this than what I'm really trying to figure out is how to get the socket in that 1 inch space and replace the pulley without removing the engine. Or any good way you may have done it.

Need a special tool that does this job. WIthout it you will not be able to loosen and tighten the bolt to 150-160 ft-lb. There is also a engine locking tool to keep the engine from turning. Check with Snap on for the tools. It is not cheap, try about $100 or more. Remember to use a new pulley and change all the seals including the oil pump seals, when you replace this pulley.
I've seen a car that the owner put a whole in the fire wall to be able to use impact socket. To lock the engine use the flywheel area.
Auto trans: use a 16-17 mm socket on torque converter bolt.
Manual trans: use a large screwdriver from underneath access hole and lock the flywheel tooth.
