need a new engine, will Saab cover I purchased a 2005 9-2x Aero new. I went over in warranty miles, all highway. My neighbor is a mechanic and has a lift in his garage and performed most off-warranty oil changes (all within factory recos). I was driving home from work and the engine started making loud clanking noises and lost power when trying to accelerate. I pulled over and it got louder. I checked the oil and it was full and didn't look too dark (it was just chaged a month prior). I have 69,000 miles on it in 3 years and my Saab dealer just said it needs a new engine! What should I do? This is my 3rd Saab (although it's really a Subaru) and I WAS planning on buying the 9-4x when it comes out. Will Saab stand behind the engine? Is there anything I can do? It's an automatic, how could this happen with the brain limiting RPM, etc? I got 115,000 miles out of my first Saab's original clutch! They say it could be over $10,000 worth of parts and labor, what are my chances? Who can I contact at Saab?
BTW - I knew it was a Saaburu when I bought it, any previous Saab owner could tell just walking around the body! I bought it at first for a replacement car for my wife wile we were awaiting the release of the 9-7x (which is not being discontinued as well) and I happened to like the HP so I started driving it.
I have turned in all my paperwork, unfortunetly 5 oil changes could only be backed up with a receipt for the purchase of oil and filters...so we'll see. If I end up having to pony-up for a new engine I'm thinking about buying a doner engine or bringing it to Subaru...any thoughts of that?
I hear that the cross-over (9-4x) is going to be super nice but the only Saab it will have will be the interior, so i guess my only option in the next few years is another 9-5...
Oops...I meant (above) that the 9-7x is NOW going to be discontinued. So now there will only be 9-3s and 9-5s until the 9-4 comes out in 2010...
