When I start up my SAAB 9_5 the air con comes on and its really annoying to have to switch it off every time I get in the car.Can someone tell me if its possible to stop it doing this ?

Go find the manual. Look in the index for 'automatic climate control'. Find out how to turn off/reprogram the system. The instructions to do this on my 95 Pontiac probably won't work on your SAAB.
