2006 Saab 9-5 with Damage!! HELP!

Hey guys! Im new to the forum after purchasing a 2006 Saab 9-5 4dr Sedan!

However, i just recently did a Carproof on it and it says there was "unibody damage" to the car and the point of inpact was the "undercarriage"

the cost of the repair was $12000!! The accident happened in April of 2008 so it was almost 2 years ago. The car was purchased at the auction 6 weeks ago and then i bought it yesterday. So the car HAS been on the road for a while now. Should i return the car? I bitched the salesman out after finding out the history of the report. He told me it was in an accident but the insurance claimed it as a 0 dollar repair???? I seen this with my own eyes, so i didnt trust him and did my own research. The carproof clearly says the car was auctioned with a "unibody damage" listing.

he DID say i can take it to a mechanic today and check it out and if i he doesnt like what he see's then i can get my money back. i only paid a $1100 down payment now and i owe $12000 on it which the certified check is sitting in front of me here waiting on the mechanic's approval. Its a shame though because the car is in MINT condition. it looks brand new.



I got it for 11,495 with 2 year powertrain warranty. i paid $13100 canadian for it (taxes, ownership and plates included). Blackbook lists it as $13000 wholesale and $15300 retail (before taxes) So i got a good deal

Just me perhaps but I would take the money and write any loss (time and costs), to a learning experience.

The "experience" a the other end of the learning curve may be costly .. as in .. it may cost you your life.

If a car has had structural damage, ask yourself how it may hold up in a crash? The Saab and other cars that have reasonable safety ratings get them in part by the design of the floor pans/uni-body design as well as the pillars and engine break away features.

I am typing this right now with a slight tremor in my right hand. I would not be typing this at all except for the crumple zone of the older Mercedes 190 ... it was a 1989 if memory serves.

The damage was very subtle and when I saw the car the next day my first reaction was .... hey, all it needs is a hood, fenders and grill and stuff like that. I had done this with a few old MG's and stuff; bought the wreck for like 10% of book and had a cool car for pennies on the dollar. Then with the Merc, I got down and looked at the crumpled pans. At my request the insurance company (wreck was not my fault), had to come back and total the car and I ....

Think about what will happen if someone hits you .... or .... you screw up and hit something .... schizz happens right? WILL THAT CAR HOLD UP AS THE DESIGNERS INTENDED? THERE ARE TWO LIKELY ANSWERS ... 1. It may or ... 2. Nope, it may fold like a cheap suit.

Face it, many of us buy Saab because of the long tradition of safety and I can still picture the Erik Carlsson stuff of the 60's .... "Erik on the roof" ... rolling down a ski jump and opening the door.

Please, get that car looked at by someone who really knows what the heck they are doing. Insurance policies are nice and you may be right but "dead right" ... and it won't matter who is right or wrong.

Sorry for the long winded post but ..... I've survived a few .... some to luck and some to good engineering.
