If they did not put the correct fluid in there, (80/90 gear oil I think) then you have grounds for an immediate replacement transmission. It is part of the job to check level and top off that lubricant when completing job. I work on Tractor Trailer Diesel engines and I am really unsure of the lubricant used in smaller vehicles as some modern "Cars" actually use A.T.F. in a standard shift automobile. The dealer can tell you the correct fluid but the mechanic who did the job should have done that as well.

A good mechanic would check the level for you. Most shops will not do anything extra for you without charging for it. Typically when they do a clutch job they just remove the transmission (fluid and all) and then put it back the same way. If your paperwork does not state that they changed the fluid then most likely did not. Most manual transmission have a plug on the side where you would add fluid, The correct fluid level is just below that opening. You can just check the level and then add more if necessary.
